Scimitar has been an Australian Icon in power catamarans since 1997. With over 65 vessels delivered, it is now back with a new look and a range of models designed and constructed in Australia, for Australian conditions
Having sold a 10-metre power catamaran we were looking for a replacement when a friend suggested we look at Scimitar.
We have now owned a Scimitar for 9 years, travelled up and down the east coast exploring, there’s so much to like, it’s perfect for day trips, weekend trips or extended cruising.
When I decided to upgrade my boat I did months of research which included all of the well-known brands of monos and cats. Top of my list were fuel efficiency, genuine ocean going capability and most importantly a well thought out practical layout. The Scimitar 1010 was the clear stand out with 6 comfortable berths and a huge saloon, cockpit and flybridge and 400 nautical mile range! In the 4 years we’ve owned Seaspray we’ve made the trip North from Brisbane to the Capricornia group twice and planning for the third is underway.
We love our Scimitar as it gives us the manoeuvrability and shallow draft needed for a day trip to Peel Island or Days Gutter, whilst also giving us the comfort and economy needed to spend weeks cruising around Moreton Bay. The combination of practicality and comfort where what sold us on the Scimitar.
Punches well above it’s weight (literally). Key features we love and sold us on the Scimitar include:
• Fantastic entertainer with space comparable to a 50’ monohull.
• Incredibly fuel efficient and light weight
• Simple to operate and maintain onboard systems, incorporating environmentally friendly solar power.
• Ample headroom, two master cabins
• Shallow draft and protected running gear.
